View Full Version : What
My bmi is 24.6, I am '5"5 and 148 pounds. I am built like a line man meaning I am wide if you will. And a bit husky, so why is my bmi 24,6 not way over weight?

I think the calculator you used was wrong as ive recalculated it for you and it does class you as over weight
You can check it out here and re-do it for yourself

John, I'm not sure if you can read the chart below, it's really confusing, but it does say that you would be categorized as overwight, but not obeses.
http://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/images/growthchart_example1.gif
But do double check your calculation and then see what it says. A site that tells you directly is http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/
Hope this helps!
Alright well I still think it is way off.
Thanks

Yes I think The BMI is a waste of time as you know if your healthy or not at least you should
It once said that i was under weight and the only way i could do anything about that was build my muscle up so I dont really trust those things too much

Where is your evidence for this? And most people don't have a clue whether they or healthy or not. Humans SHOULD be able to do all sorts or things but it doesn't quite work like that.
With the amount of experts in health that it took to come up with the system for BMI to be finalised and what each figure means, I don't think you are in a position to argue without suitable experience or training.

BMI by itself can be almost useless, though. It's good as part of a larger indication, but BMI only looks at height at weight. My friend Josh, for example, is 5'10" and 210 pounds. According to BMI calculators, he's obese (30.1). But he is a fitness nut, eating well and exercising often, and he has only 8% body fat, making him pretty lean. His weight is mostly from his muscle, which BMI alone doesn't take into account.

Also BMI is normally designed for adults. During the teenage years it is'nt used very much because if the massive changes to body, growth spurts etc. If you are that worried about your weight, do you have a school nurse or doctor or someone similar to discuss it with?
