What do you think of it?

I personally think that Russia should not be trying to take it. It's in Georgia, it's part of Georgia, belonging to Georgia. Russia has no right to fight for it to become part of Russia.

What do you think?

My view is that Georgia should have left South Ossetia alone and should not have risked a war it cannot possibly win against Russia. South Ossetia has effectively been independent of Georgia since the collapse of the Soviet Union and has been a defacto part of Russia since that time. While Georgia needs to preserve its territorial integrity fighting over a territory that has been effectively independent and putting the rest of Georgia at risk is just not worth it.

Why should Georgia leave a part of their country alone? People recognize Georgia, with South Ossetia and Abkazia within it. No one recognizes South Ossetia, except other break away states, such as, Transitria, Abkazia. So my view, it's part of Georgia. And just because it has a border with the North Ossetia republic of Russia, doesn't mean they get to forcefully take it from Georgia. Russia has enough land as is.

I also believe this war is retaliation from Russia, to America. Georgia is in Iraq, along with the US, and the US, has already recognized Kosovo, and Russia hasn't, so I do believe this can be linked. They get back at us, for Kosovo, by hurting Georgia. Quite fucked up if you ask me.

Let me tell you, Russia would be pissed at me for recognizing Kosovo along with the other 45/46 UN members. :P

I completely agree with your points about the two breakaway regions being sovereign parts of Georgia and that it is wrong that Russia had more or less taken control of those two places. However, my point is that while it is regrettable that Georgia does not have control over those two places the status quo was far better than Georgia entering into an unwinnable war against Russia. The wars after the early 1990s has shown that Georgia cannot win militariliy in those regions, and Georgia's only hope to reconcile itself with those two regions was through diplomacy and to prove to the inhabitants of those regions that they could not only have a meaningful life in Georgia but also not fear military intervention when they are on the outs with the authorities in Tblisi.

My view is that the Georgia president is deeply unpopular in his own country and thought by launching a lightning strike against these two regions that he could somehow salvage his presidency. I am sure that the Georgian president thought he could count on American and Western support to support a war that he wanted to assert his authority. The only winner from this war will be Russia as the ordinary Georgian is going to be the biggest looser due to the actions of their president.

Georgia propably tried to do some small type genocide, well that's what the russians claim, and I sort of think that has some truth. That action is tottaly unacceptable, but Abhazia and S Ossetia belong to the Georgian Republic and the Russian Federation is messing in territories they shouldn't. What is the UN for ???
These territories belong to Georgia but Russia is trying to add them to their territory...There might be lots of russians there, yeah, but as in kosovo, I don't think they have the right to demand to break a country. They could go to russia or they could stay where they are. People don't really have to earn or lose anything ,it's the top of the mountain that has the snow
